Writing Tip 32: The Defeat of Feet

Feet vs featThis week’s favorite typo: “That was quite a feet!” Was it indeed? What was so unusual about the foot in question? And what’s with the singular/plural confusion?

What I’m guessing this writer perhaps meant was “feat.” Remember:

  • A “feat” is an accomplishment or deed well done.
  • “Feet” are the appendages attached to the base of one’s legs.

A helpful tip: the word “defeat” is the opposite of “feat.” Now, if you’re writing “defeet” and not talking about some sort of amputation, I can’t help you.
